What people remember from a meeting

In most communities I know, the creative people are the extra. Their work is a nice to have: a song to open, a poster for the door.

The people we call left brain think the important part of a meeting is the reading, the decisions, the data and the logic. The right brain people know that what we remember is how the meeting made us feel. That feeling, the spirit of the room, can carry people for years.

Compared to other scientists, Nobel laureates are at least twenty-two times more likely to partake as an amateur actor, dancer, magician, or other type of performer.

So I think the arts belong in the work itself, and they deserve to be asked for on purpose, with the same care as the agenda.

Some will say, "We already have a song at the start." I would ask who chose the song, and whether anyone asked the person singing it for something they made.

A constraint helps with the asking. "Something creative" is easy to put off. "One page, about a threshold, by the twelfth" is a thing someone can say yes to and finish, which is why a season in IntentSpring has a theme, a constraint and a date.
