How it works

A private practice and a creative commons

A practice for anyone reaching for something. A commons where makers answer calls inside a season's constraint.

Art is limitation; the essence of every picture is the frame.

G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy (1908)
Your practice

Only the person who wrote it can open it

Curators and admins have no way in.

  • Personal Intentions: something you are reaching for, with a first review date
  • Check-ins and reviews in your own words, the last review beside the new one
  • The journal records what happened, and gaps leave no trace
  • A guided script for your intention, read in your own voice; no audio is made or stored
The season

One constraint, opening to showing

Curators set the theme, the constraint, a midpoint nudge and the closing showing.

  • A real constraint: a form, a length, a material, one word, a date
  • Calls ask for one thing: a song under three minutes, a letter of 300 words
  • A named maker can promise it by a date or say not this time
  • Makers who fit appear beside each unanswered call
What gets made

The maker sets the terms

The terms travel with the work.

  • Nine kinds, from a poem to a guided audio script, each enabled per community
  • Usage terms chosen by the maker, and every collaborator credited
  • Private Delivery: "between us", or "you may share it with the community"
  • The maker sees "delivered" and nothing more, whatever the person chose
  • The commons is members only by default; the showing gets a printed programme
Around it

Onboarding, comments and AI drafts

  • Practise, make, or both on the first screen; a maker never sees a goals question
  • Replies one level deep and four fixed reactions, off on anything private
  • AI drafts of a theme, an invitation or a guided script, saved only when a person chooses
  • The AI never makes the art, and a community can switch it off

Start with one season

Five questions, and IntentSpring drafts a first season with its constraint and two calls.

Part of CollectiveNexus

Built for your community's Curator

A Curator picks the season's theme and constraint, opens calls, asks makers by name, and puts the finished work in a room.
