The talk nobody came to, and the workshop everybody did
I once planned a talk with stories, data and a call to action. Few people came. The next time I ran a creative workshop on the same ideas, and people asked for more.
I once planned a talk on a topic I found fascinating. I prepared stories, anecdotes, data and what I thought was a compelling call to action.
Few people showed up. Nobody wants to be lectured to.
The next time, I planned a creative workshop instead. People acted, made art and sang songs together, all around the themes I had wanted to talk about. More people came, and at the end they asked for more of it.
Personal value is the kind of value we receive from being active instead of passive, creative instead of consumptive.
People will come to make something together, and to see what their neighbours made, far more readily than they will come to hear one person explain. IntentSpring is built so a community can run the second kind of evening on purpose, one season after another.
